Phlomis russeliana, of brandkruid, bloeit lichtgeel en de bloemen staan in opvallende kransen om de stengels. De bloeitijd van Phlomis russeliana valt in de periode mei-september.

Phlomis russeliana wordt ongeveer 80 tot 100 cm hoog en staat graag op een zonnige warme plek. De bodem dient voldoende waterdoorlatend te zijn.

Van oorsprong komt Phlomis russeliana uit het noorden van Turkije waar het groeit op open plekken in het bos en onder kreupelhout van de hazelaar.
